In keeping with the principle of equitable justice in the Constitution of India, the UGC has broadened support for Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs), and Visvesvaraya Technological University has established an SEDG Cell in line with UGC guidelines.
Primary goal: ensuring opportunities for inclusive, equal and quality higher education for students from SEDGs.
The SEDG Cell functions as an independent body, without hindrance to the mandated activities of other cells in the institution. It protects the constitutionally guaranteed rights, dignity, safety and security of everyone belonging to the SEDGs, and ensures equal access and opportunities in higher education — working with statutory bodies such as the SC/ST Cell and the Equal Opportunity Cell so that these students participate actively and equally in the academic, intellectual, social and cultural life of the institution.
