CBIT, Kolar, follows a set of green campus initiatives that keep the campus safe, clean and sustainable — for today’s students and future generations.
- Pedestrian-friendly pathways
- Vehicle-restricted areas
- Parking sign boards
- Plastic-free campus
- Landscaped lawns & trees
- Electric vehicles
Pedestrian-Friendly Pathways
Roads and sidewalks within the campus are in good condition, and walking routes are used for safe movement around the campus. Motor-vehicle access is restricted, security personnel are posted at turns and crossings, and pedestrian paths connect all the building blocks inside the main building.
Vehicle-Restricted Areas
Motorised vehicles are strictly limited on campus. The campus has three separate parking areas for students and staff, located close to the gate, and security personnel stop motor vehicles at the security gate.
There is also a bicycle park near the gate, where students can park bicycles and electric bikes. Students are encouraged to use bicycles on campus to reduce pollution.
Plastic-Free Campus
Plastic has become an almost unavoidable part of modern life — cheap, easy to mass-produce and used in countless products. CBIT is a plastic-free campus: we work to measurably reduce plastic waste and pollution on campus and beyond, and have banned single-use plastics in the canteen, hostel and shops.
Landscaping, Trees and Plants
A sizeable lawn and garden within the main campus is used for many activities — yoga, study, cultural events and gatherings. CBIT’s sustainability efforts protect existing trees and add new plantings for future generations, while teaching students the value of conservation.
Electric Vehicles
Battery electric vehicles (BEVs, or EVs) run entirely on electricity stored in a rechargeable battery pack that powers one or more electric motors. They use no petrol or diesel and produce zero tailpipe emissions, and can be charged almost anywhere, at a much lower cost than fuel. CBIT uses a battery-powered vehicle for college purposes.
