The Department of Civil Engineering established in the year 2009 with an initial intake of 60 and later enhanced to 120 in the year 2014-15. The department is equipped with well-established laboratories and classrooms with highly qualified faculty. The FCE of the department is active & vibrant platform by conducting academic activities viz., Seminars, Conferences, Workshops, Industrial visits and student’s symposium. In addition, the department has Consultancy Cell, offering services for Third Party Inspection and Material Testing to cater the needs of PWD, Municipal authorities, local bodies and Construction Industries. The department also offers the M.Tech course in CAD Structures with an intake of 18. The department is headed Prof. Shivaraju R, with a teaching experience of 21 years, being involved in research activities and consultancy services. The department has established Centre for Research Project in which a VTU sponsored research on Geo-Environmental Engineering is in progress under the supervision of Prof. Shivaraju R as Principal Investigator. All the faculties are dedicated actively involved in academic, research and consultancy activities. The Extensive Survey Camps are being conducted at Kaivara, Chaitamani Taluk and Sri Subrahmanya Ghati, Doddaballapur taluk, Bengaluru Rural Distric for 6th Sem BE Civil Engineering students during vacation between 5th & 6th Semester. Many UG & PG Projects are well conducted covering various thrust areas in Civil Engineering.

All the faculty of department are actively involved in academic activities , consultancy and R&D work..Prof Shivaraju R HOD , published more than 20 publications in seminar, conferences and in international journals in various domains of engineering and technology. Many faculty have attended seminars and conferences and presented papers.
The department also introduced counseling for students to achieve better performance by the students and this also helps in realizing the students responsibility and accountability during their studentships, which also motivates in their studentship.
Seventh Semester students visited Tertiary Treatment plant of sewage at yelahanka under the guidance of professor Shivaraju to get the industrial Exposure

Research Activities in Civil Engineering Department:
Department of civil Engineering is first in Research Activities. The department has obtained a Research Grants from Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) under the VTU Research Grants. The Research works is in good progress with Prof. Shivaraju R, being the Chief Investigator. Many UG and PG students are engaged in their Project Works in the area of Geo-Environmental Engineering, a young discipline in Civil Engineering field. This research project mainly focus on the thrust area of contaminated soil due to small scale industries in and around Kolar, Chickballapur and Bangalore Rural districts.

Civil Engineering Consultancy Cell:
The Department has consultancy cell and is actively carry out testing of all building material, soil exploration, surveying, Third Party Inspection of Govt., and Non-Govt. organizations and other services on industry need based.
The Department of Civil Engineering has started Dept. library “GNANA MITHRA” for the benefit of Staff and Students in the department on 11th March 2016.
Forum of Civil Engineering
FCE of the department is a body constituted by HOD, Faculties and Student representatives. This body organize and monitor all the activities like Industrial Visits, Work shop, seminars, conferences etc,.
The Department of Civil Engineering has organized One day Industrial Visit for 3rd, 5th and 7th Semester Students under the caption “CAMPUS TO CORPORATE” during 2015-16.
- RMC plant at Narasapur industrial Area, Kolar for 3rd sem Civil Engg. Students on 13/08/2015.
- KMF Milk dairy at Kolar for 5th sem Civil Engg. on 14/08/2015.
- Sewage Treatment Plant-TTP, Yelahanka, for 7th sem Civil Engg. on 11/08/2015.
- National Institute of Rock Mechanics at KGF, Kolar for 3rd Sem Civil Engg. on 19/02/2016.
- Ongoing construction of Polytechnic Building and Extension of Main Block at CBIT campus for 6th Sem Civil Engg. on 27/02/2016.
The Department has organized Planting trees around Sir M V’s statue in the premises of Civil Engineering Department under the caption “GREEN CIVIL”
Engineer’s day Celebration:
On 15th September 2015 Engineer’s Day has been celebrated in commemorate with the Birth Day celebration of Sir M Visvesvaraya by offering respectful pooja to the statue of Sir M V in the premises of Civil Engineering Department.
